December 21, 2016: 2 Stratford, CT Firefighters received burns as a result of fighting a structure fire
Posted On: Dec 23, 2016
On 12/21/2016 two Stratford, CT Firefighters received burns as a result of fighting a structure fire. The Lt. recognized the signs of the imminent flashover, and he and his crew were able to make it to within 3 feet of the front door before flashover occurred. Due to their training and that they were wearing their gear properly the burns they received at this fire were minor in nature.
In the Stratford Fire Department a policy is in place which states that anytime a firefighter in this department sustains a burn injury no matter how small or how minor it looks they are to be sent to Bridgeport Hospital and seen by a member of the Connecticut Burn Center at Bridgeport Hospital. It was written and put into an SOP by working together with the firefighters local, chiefs and our foundation
Due to this policy both firefighters were seen by the burn center staff immediately last night, treated, released and will be followed up with.
WE encourage ALL Connecticut Fire Departments to develop and implement this policy to support all CT firefighters!
