GRIEVANCE HANDLING Staff Representative will provide guidance throughout the grievance procedure:
- Reviewing contract violation
- Drafting initial violation
- Consulting on the need for MPP filing
- Attending Step 1 & 2 meetings w/management
- Coordinating with labor attorney during arbitration case
SPECIAL SITUATIONS
- Staff and outside consultants assist in a variety of exceptional cases
- Complex workers’ compensation cases, including Firefighter Cancer claims
- FLSA interpretation
- Retirement & Health Care Plan design
ADDITIONAL SERVICES
- Staff & Board will assist in many areas outside general staff work, including:
- Creating a public relations campaign to discuss important issues
- Executing a media strategy for contract or health & safety issues
- Preparing an issue or candidate campaign during local elections
- Teaching classes to membership or board members on many topics
- Addressing disputes using the UPFFA Labor Management Team
- Assisting with the creation of a local peer support team or H&S committee
- Instituting protocols of the IAFF fitness program
- Providing liability insurance for local fundraising events

WE WORK FOR YOU IN WASHINGTON AND HARTFORDLEGISLATIVE SERVICES PROVIDED BY THE UPFFA
- Monitor all legislation proposed before the Congress and State Legislature for impact on Connecticut professional firefighters
- Introduce legislation before the State Legislature beneficial to Connecticut firefighters
- Cooperate with the International Association of Fire Fighters on federal legislation and lobby Senators and Representatives on firefighter issues
- Lobby members of the State Legislature, providing information to members that would help them make informed decisions concerning firefighter issues
- Provide expert testimony before legislative committees and public hearings
- Attend all regular sessions of the state legislature and all committee meetings
- Attend meetings with other labor organizations to coordinate and support the efforts of our labor friends
- Develop position papers on issues important to firefighters
- Attend the annual legislative caucus in Washington, DC
- Assist locals in developing and implementing Political Action Committees as well as offering political guidance
- Administer the UPFFA Fire Pac Fund. Offer support to friends of Fire Fighters
